“When we grow as individuals, the whole organization benefits from this”

Dear Red Crossers,

In this autumn edition of the HENRY+ the spotlight is on the theme of 'growth'. Growth may make you think of nature: flowers, plants, trees. Nature grows and it blossoms, and it finds its own way. In every season. The same is true of our Volunteers. Some have been members since they were young, others join us when they retire. In the discussions that I hold with volunteers I often hear that the Red Cross gives them new energy, is a good addition to their CV and offers a nice social environment. A place where you can develop as a person and which may enable you to see life from a different angle. Hopefully you too feel at home in our fine association and are becoming a better version of yourself. If we grow as individuals, the whole organisation grows with us.

The world around us is changing at an ever-growing pace. We at the Red Cross try to respond to this and change with it, so that we are always able to offer the type of help that is needed. An example of this is our efforts during the corona pandemic, the flooding in Limburg and recently the provision of assistance to Afghan refugees. We help people in need who are at risk of lacking the basic living requirements, such as food, shelter or medical assistance.  This means that our organisation is on the move on many fronts. And a lot is happening in the districts, too.

Wishing you an enjoyable read!

Warm regards,

Marieke van Schaik
